
DANIEL WYSZOGRODZKI
author, translator and journalist
Translated hundreds of songs by renowned singer-songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Bruce Springsteen and others. His translation of “Księga tęsknoty” (The Book of Longing), the new book of poetry by Leonard Cohen, was published in Poland in 2006. His translations of selected songs from Janis Joplin’s repertoire were used in the stage production of “Moja mama Janis” (My mother Janis) in 2005 (new production opened at Nova Scena in January 2010).
From 1995 to 2000 he prepared numerous translations for television of feature films, documentaries and musicals such as „The Sound of Music”, „Yellow Submarine” and „Ned Kelly”. He translates Polish songs into English for artists who perform abroad. In 2004 the film "Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera" was shown in Poland’s movie theatres in his translation.
He is the author of a popular biography book, “Satisfaction – The Rolling Stones” (4 editions) and the editor of numerous record editions, specializing in Polish popular music archives. His edition of complete recordings of Marek Grechuta (15 CD, “Świecie nasz”) was rewarded with Fryderyk 2001 for “the Best Reissue”. He’s also a music columnist (record reviews) and an interviewer of a prestigious Polish lifestyle magazine ZWIERCIADŁO.
His music theater projects include translations of Cats (“Koty”, 2004), Dance Of The Vampires (“Taniec wampirów”, 2005) and writing original songs lyrics for a musical AKADEMIA PANA KLEKSA “The Academy of Professor Klex” (Teatr ROMA, 2007). He translated “Upiór w operze” (The Phantom of the Opera) for the March 2008 premiere in the Roma Theater. Also recently he prepared the translations of two musicals “Oliver!” and "The Producers" for Teatr Rozrywki in Chorzów (2009). World-famous children opera "Brundibar" premiered in Teatr Wielki in Poznań in his adaptation of the text (2009). Currently he is working on a book on Polish popular music - to be published in 2011 - and on translation of the all-time favourite musical “Les Miserables” (premiere: ROMA Theater, September 2010).
From March 2007 Daniel Wyszogrodzki has been appointed a Literary Consultant of the Roma Theater.
